About the Institute...
The Gulf Archaeology Research Institute (GARI) is a non-profit research and education organization that began operations in 1995. We specialize in primary research in prehistoric and historic terrestrial and underwater archaeology.
Primary research foci include coastal prehistory, community structure, historic pioneer and the archaeology of the Seminole Wars. The institute has a well developed public information and education program that provides both free services in the area of historic preservation and archaeology and over thirty tuition-based courses including coursework in the social, biological and physical sciences.
GARI professional staff take great pride in working with college and university students desiring to learn more about their chosen profession. Training is diverse and may include how to build research/project designs, research methods, topical or thematic research in various archaeological cultures, material culture research, field and laboratory methods, working with the public, grant writing, and the budget and business aspects of professional life.
The institute's professional staff is small, but we have a solid network of research associates to assist in providing a wide range of professional services. Our motto of connecting the past to our future is a constant reminder of the great losses we face each year with a declining cultural cultural resource base and our paramount responsibility to research, preserve, protect, and inform on those resources before they are lost.
We like to believe that good things can come in small packages and this simple site should provide the public and professional alike with our current happenings, events, and even some proposed plans for future work.
